(Originally
started October 3rd, 2004 by Bagoth and taking
place January 2015 in the Roostville Universe)
Bagoth was laying back in his chair, checking out
the latest home and property listings and how much money they were going
for. It was amazing to see that a lot of the most expensive homes and such
could be bought with Monopoly money. Strange town, with stranger stuff
about it. Putting the magazine down, Bagoth was about to turn on the TV
when an alert sounded. The archmage ran and put on his trench coat, equipped
himself with a few weapons and ran to the meeting room to see what was
up. Taking his regular seat, he listened to what the Chief had to say.
"Alright, folks. According to a phone call we received,
a renowned scientist is now dead. We have been called in because Sheriff
Jet Jaguar is busy with the rebuilding and helping out with other things.
This is our big chance, people! Don't screw it up."
With a very responsive, "Yes, Sir!" the group departed
to wherever they might be needed. Bagoth was about to leave as well but
his boss called him over.
"Bagoth, I want you to be in charge of the investigation."
"Me, sir? Why?"
"Because you are the best detective I have and your
magic makes you very reliable."
"Thank you, sir." The chief just nodded.
"Here is all the information we have been able to
gather. Good luck." Bagoth nodded his thanks and headed back to his office.
Soon, he was looking through the reports he had been given. It appeared
that nothing physical had happened to the deceased, there were no fingerprints,
signs of a break-in - nothing.
This intrigued him. The doctor was killed at his home
and he had a few helpers and such who helped with a few experiments he
was conducting. Bagoth decided to interview a few of them.
Bagoth looked at the house before him. It appeared
like any other mansion, quiet and serene. There were electrical devices
that stuck out of the roof which intrigued him somewhat. The detective
shrugged and entered the massive house. Officers were everywhere, from
the kitchen to the 2nd floor. As he began to scope out the place, one of
them stopped him but Bagoth showed his badge and went to the crime scene
without a hassle. Turning, he saw an elevator, obviously leading to the
labs and lower levels of the house. Shrugging again, Bagoth entered the
fancy cab and pushed the DOWN button.
In a few moments, he was amid something you'd probably
see in a Frankenstein movie; strange equipment was everywhere and white
chalk outline where the victim lay was clearly visible. Checking out the
crime scene, he was interrupted by the officer who was obviously in charge
of the investigation.
"Good afternoon, Detective Bagoth."
"Afternoon to yourself, uh Mr. Sushain."
"Just call me Tom."
"Alright, Tom. What the hell happened here?"
"To tell you the truth, I don't know. What you got
was all the information that we have."
"I see. Do we have any witnesses at least? Yah, a
girl but I'll leave that stuff to you."
"Thanks."
"You're welcome. And good luck on the case. You'll
probably need it," said the head officer as he walked off.
Before he could leave his sight, Bagoth called, "Oh,
and Tom. I want an autopsy on this - who did you say he was again?"
"A Mr. Deschain. Cole Deschain. And I think I scheduled
one in."
"Thanks."
"Sure thing." And with that, Tom left. Turning around,
Bagoth scoped the area around the crime scene. The file was correct. Nothing
had been moved or touched and there wasn't a mark on the guy. He'd never
heard of anything like this before. As he was snooping about, one of the
officers came up to him.
"Detective?"
"Yah?"
"Ms. Dority is willing to speak to you now."
"Alrighty then." Bagoth followed the officer to a
girl who awaited them. She was fairly pretty, with long blonde hair and
probably around 18-20 years old.
"Hello, Ms Dority. My name is Detective Bagoth and
I was wondering if you could tell me what happened here..." The girl sniffled
before she could begin.
"Well, the doctor wanted me to go and check out some
of the machinery. It was really late and I would've rather been at home
but the doctor needed me so I stayed. I was only gone for a minute and
when I got back, he wasn't moving. Nothing happened, I'm sure of it! No
accident. nothing..."
"I see. Well, could you tell me if the doctor had
any enemies to speak of?"
"Well, he did have a lot of rivals at the academy
but I don't think they would do a thing like this."
"Okay. Does anybody work with you?"
"Yes. A man comes in once in a while to help but he
is really strange, you know..." Bagoth nodded as he took out a piece of
paper.
"Could you tell me his name?"
"Sure. A Mr. Scott Havened." Bagoth offered his thanks
and apologies for her loss and walked away as the Paramedics were ready
for her. Tom walked up to him just then.
"So did you get anything good, some clues hopefully?
I'm heading back to the office to see if there have been any cases like
this before."
"So do you think she did it?"
"Nah, I mind probed her as we talked."
"Is that legal?"
"If I don't get caught, it isn't."
*****
The Inspector's next stop was the renowned Roostville
University
of Kaijuology. At least he didn't have to worry about corralling that
scatter-brained Doctor Sandworm Phish for an interview. He also did not
look forward to questioning Professor Emeritus Saruman, the four time winner
of the Nobel Prize and highly regarded scholar/archeologist of Middle Earth
who also headed up the the Institute of Kaijuology. At least his associate,
Enshohma, (a three time winner) would no doubt only bore him with details
of his latest research.
Vice-Mayor Ubergeek was also involved in academia,
what with being the chief funder of the Institute but he preferred to keep
his association below the radar as much as possible. Maybe Bagoth could
at least find out what was up with that.
He hoped the trail wouldn't lead to the Institute
of Obscure Kaiju (Enshohma's own domain) and his associate researchers,
Cam Eleon and Yongary. Right now, he didn't need those Mods interfering
with his investigation and most likely, just getting in the way.
What had this Doctor Deschain fellow been working
on anyway, he wondered. The equipment in his home laboratory didn't look
like it had anything to do with any kind of live specimens, much less kaiju.
Still, you never could tell what some of these doctor types might be up
to...
Bagoth entered the Institute and headed towards the
secretary at the front desk. He showed her his badge and introduced himself.
"Hello. My name is Detective Bagoth and I am following
up on the case of one Dr. Deschain. I understand that he has worked with
Dr. Saruman, Cam Eleon and Yongary. I would like to speak with these people."
The secretary looked at him strangely.
"Sir, you cannot just burst in here and tell such
esteemed scientists to stop their important work to talk to you."
"Lady, it is fully within my right as an agent of
the Roostville Bureau of Investigation. And when it comes to detective
work or interviewing suspected suspects, it is my right to interview whoever
I damn well please. Now are you going to schedule an interview or do I
have to bring a court order and other nastiness in here?
"I understand, Detective, but they are quite busy.
I can schedule you in for tomorrow if that is acceptable."
"It is, and thank you for your time." And with that,
Bagoth left.
*****
It was night time in Roostville and most people were
probably asleep by now, except for those at the bars and such and Bagoth.
He had been looking through the files of the last five years to determine
if the killing was similar to another that might have occurred. Nothing
was showing up yet so he stopped and began to wonder if he was going about
this all wrong. Maybe there was some reason this scientist was killed,
a reason and not just some isolated attack. He decided to go to the book
store and see if the late Sheriff Varan wrote anything on the subject or
maybe Sheriff Jet Jaguar. Shrugging, he called out to his secretary.
"I'm going out. You can lock up if you want."
Bagoth was walking down the street with the books
he was carrying in a bag. It was really dark and almost 12 AM. He had the
suspicion that someone was following him. It was still a good few miles
back to the RBI so he decided to turn around.
There stood three figures before him. Confused, Bagoth
called out to them.
"Uh, what's up, guys?" The figures didn't do anything,
just raise their arms. Things popped out of their backs and in seconds,
Bagoth was engulfed by explosions. Beams blasted everywhere, rockets flew
in all directions and bullets bounced off the buildings. It was a wonder
he got his shield up in time. Casting a spell, Bagoth shot three fireballs
that hit head on but didn't do anything to the targets. Sighing, he tried
a different battle spell, Chain Lightning. The lightning bounced from one
figure to the other and one could clearly see their convulsions. It took
quite a while before the men went down and Bagoth took out his radio.
"Uh, I'm going to need some back up here..."
*****
Above Roostville, a black hole opened for no more
than two seconds and from it dropped a man in his 20's with dark hair,
wearing a black T-shirt, baggy white zip-off jeans and sunglasses. He fell
near the bar and was about to walk in when he heard loud explosions coming
from behind him somewhere. He turned to see three things getting struck
by lightning.
"Holy crap!" the man yelled as he levitated towards
the scene, white flame emitting from his hands.
Bagoth put the radio away and went back to pick up
his books when his Alert spell went off. Turning, he saw fire flying towards
him.
"Oh, crap." And with that, Bagoth dived for the ground
and looked up at some punk with fire flaming from his hands. He sighed
and cast an altered Globe of Invulnerability spell which would make sure
nothing could escape it. Bagoth sighed again, regarded his radio and called
the station back.
"Uh, and bring some cuffs also." And with that, Bagoth
grabbed a book and began to read as the Mods headed towards the scene of
his little confrontation.
*****
The next day, Bagoth walked back towards the University,
prepared to interview some scientists. He headed for the secretary.
"Hello, I'm Detective Bagoth and I talked to you yesterday
about interviewing Professors Saruman, Eleon and Yongary."
"Yes, detective. They have been waiting for you."
'Thank you, but I have to ask you where the Professors
might be?"
"They are in Level 5."
"Thanks." And with that, Bagoth went to the elevator
and pushed the UP button. Soon, he was on level five of the huge building
and turned to his right. There was a directory with all the professors
and their labs listed. He looked through it and found Professor Saruman
was in Lab 1. The detective walked down the hallway, found it and walked
in.
"Huh, Professor Saruman?" The professor and Dark Lord
turned to the detective.
"Yes."
"I'm Detective Bagoth and I'm here to ask you a few
questions about the death of Dr. Deschain."
"I heard about Dr. Deschain's death but what does
it have to do with me?"
"I hear that you two were rivals throughout Deschain's
stay at the University so I was wondering if you could tell me anything
of value. Maybe what he was working on here."
Saruman sighed. "Dr. Deschain's most recent experiment
was combining technology with organic material. Now if you'll excuse me,
I have work to do."
"Thank you." Bagoth looked at what Saruman was working
on. "Oh, and you may want to adjust that, too. For more accurate results."
The detective left Lab 1.
*****
Zearatul sat in his cell, marinating in his ire. "They
think they can keep me here? Fine." He then yelled at one of the guards.
"HEY! I'm not involved with those guys! I was trying to help Bagoth!" The
guard just looked at him.
"Save it for the judge."
"But I don't have time for a court trial!" Zearatul
protested,
"Guess that's your problem now, isn't it?" the jailer
snickered. Zearatul sighed.
"Forgive me, but you leave me little choice." Z. stood
still momentarily and then the guard fell unconscious as the cell was devoured
by a black hole. Zearatul walked out into the daylight.
*****
It was the same thing with the other two scientists.
Nothing helped Bagoth with the case itself but it did give him a few thoughts
on the situation. Obviously, this Deschain guy was working on bionics and
those guys did things that nobody but cyborgs can do. Obviously, that means
somebody had Dr. Deschain's research and is using it to create things like
what he fought the night before. It was definitely time to see how the
autopsies on the bodies were doing so Bagoth took out his cell phone.
"Hey. Dr. Jones. How are the examinations going?"
"Good, Detective. Very good."
"Cool. I was wondering if I could come over and inspect
them myself."
"I don't see why not."
"Good. I be there in a jiffy."
Soon Bagoth was looking around the morgue while Dr.
Jones was preparing the bodies. The place looked a little familiar to him.
"Hmm, this reminds me of John Carpenter's BODY BAGS."
The doctor looked up from what he was doing and just stared at him. "What,
like you never saw it." Jones just shook his head and changed the subject.
"Anyway, this is Dr. Deschain. We examined the body
through all the neural scans we could manage and there was nothing wrong
with him. He didn't die of any stress, fear, et cetera problems either.
And these three guys were the people you fried last night. What disturbs
me is, besides the metal stuff attached to them, look how much they are
decayed. The body doesn't decompose this quickly, especially under our
special resting places we have for them."
Bagoth just nodded. "Could I look at them?"
"Sure."
"Thanks." The archmage then began to run a few magical
tests on the bodies himself, seeing if they were zombies or some other
mystical creature. And just like he suspected, he was right. They had been
raised up by necromantic magic. And the doctor was killed by a death spell
but before that, a part of his mind was found to be missing. Bagoth assumed
it was his knowledge of bionics, meaning somebody had magically sucked
up all that information.
"Good lord! Our killer seems to be a Necromancer,
or someone skilled in those types of black arts." It was then that the
side wall blew in and more of the cyborg zombies arrived. A huge white
fireball took out a group of them and Bagoth turned around to see Zearatul
standing behind him.
"YOU!" he shouted. "I arrested you last night!" Bagoth
fumed at Z. who continued blasting at the zombies.
"I broke free and you are in danger! Zearatul replied
without returning his gaze.
"Yeah, tell me something I don't know!" Bagoth yelled
as the battle raged. He looked around him and sighed. There were zombies
all about him and the new guy. He shrugged and began to chant. It was a
Dispel Undead spell but Bagoth had altered it so it would be widespread.
Soon, his chanting was complete and with a flick of his wrist, the zombies
began to fall. He watched them collapse in a heap but he had sensed the
magic in them and knew he was dealing with someone quite skilled in the
necromantic arts. Soon enough, the powerful spell caught up with him. It
was simple enough, but altering it and making it more widespread (not to
mention more powerful) was a hard thing to do. The detective felt weary.
He could still stand and could probably create two or three such spells
and maybe one 9th level spell but that was it. Bagoth had other things
to deal with.
"Hey, kid"
Zearatul turned and finally spoke to him. "Yah."
"You want to help?"
"Hell, yeah!"
"Alright. I will deputize you to help me catch this
guy. But you do as you are told or I will be blamed for some reckless thing
you did. Got me?" Z nodded his head. "Good." Bagoth turned and picked up
the knocked out doctor. "After we drop this guy off at the emergency room,
how about some lunch?" Bagoth's new deputy smiled at that.
*****
When they were back at the station, Zearatul was confused.
"So what are we doing here?"
"Simple. I'm looking through the Roostville databases
to find records of Necromancers that live in Roostville or the surrounding
areas."
"Any luck?"
"None whatsoever. There are thousands of registered
Necromancers but none have the knowledge to create that kind of level of
bionics." Bagoth began to go through the events in his mind. There were
lots of them, the death of Dr. Deschain, the zombies, Deschain's research.
His knowledge was something people would have killed for but it had been
sucked out. Somebody didn't need him anymore. One memory stuck in his mind:
the girl's description of the Doc's assistant.
"Alright, let's go."
"Where to?"
"You'll see." Zearatul stopped and turned to Bagoth.
"Hey, how secretive was Mr. Deschain? Did he tell
anyone about his projects?"
"I guess we will find out now, won't we?"
It was around mid-afternoon when the duo marched up
to an apartment complex. It was not a truly cheap building but it wasn't
luxury in the making either. Zearatul and Bagoth walked up to the building
when the detective faced the kid.
"Alright, here's how it goes down. I will ask the
questions, I will get us in and you will be silent and do whatever I tell
you to. Got it?" The kid nodded. "Good"
Bagoth knocked on the door and superintendent opened
it.
"May I help you?"
"Yes, my name is Detective Bagoth of the Roostville
Bureau of Investigation. This is my partner, Zearatul. We would like
to speak with a Mr. Burns."
"I see, but you know I need to see some ID before
I let you in here."
"Of course." Bagoth flashed his badge and surprisingly,
spoke in Zearatul's mind.
"Go into your pocket and you'll feel something.
Take it out and show it."
The strange inter-dimensional kid looked a little
confused but did as he was told and took out what appeared to be his own
badge. He flashed it at the Superintendent and he let them enter. They
walked in and Bagoth pulled the kid aside.
"Now remember what I told you."
"No sweat. I got it handled."
"You'd better." Bagoth and his companion found out
where Mr. Burns was and began to walk up to Level 3. Soon, they were upstairs
and began to search for room 2B. They found it and Bagoth knocked on the
door. Mr. Burns opened it and Bagoth began to look the kid over. He was
a normal kid and didn't possess the were-kaiju gene, the mutant gene, any
magical talent whatsoever or any other sort of powers. Just a normal kid
with brown hair, green eyes a stocky kind of build. There was a snide look
about him.
"Hello. My name is Detective Bagoth and I would like
to ask you a couple of questions."
"Yah, like..." The kid's sentence stopped before it
even began. Burns began to flay all around and foam at the mouth. With
one massive scream, he fell down, dead. Bagoth looked him over with his
Arcane Sight spell.
"It appears that somebody threw a combination of a
necromantic torture and kill spell at this guy so whoever did it is quite
powerful and skilled." Bagoth took out his radio and called for backup.
It was going to be a long night of paperwork. Zearatul looked at him and
at Burns. He was secretly doubting Bagoth. After all, within the day he
had met him, Bagoth had imprisoned him and kept him from talking during
an investigation in which the investigatee died. Z. was not about to let
Bagoth know that. While normally he was not magical, he did have psionics
powers that Bagoth was, as of yet, unaware of. Using this, much like a
"false bottom for the mind", Zearatul had made Bagoth believe that he was
shallow and did not think much. Secretly, he made mental notes of Bagoth's
every move. Now, after what he had been through, Zearatul was uncertain
what he was involved in, only that some powerful third party was aware
of who they were and what they were doing and feared either Bagoth or himself
because it had not, as of yet, directly struck either of them. Zearatul
now turned to Bagoth. Do I break the silence and use my psionic powers
or do I still play it dumb? He would have to wait for the answer. Turning
back, he observed the body. It looked healthy, forgiving the foam at the
mouth and complete halt of all abilities. Zearatul thought of both incidents
with the zombies. Bagoth doesn't fight this way, he thought, recalling
Bagoth's use of lightning that called Zearatul's attention to the case.
And the Dispel Undead that Bagoth had cast earlier, both of which had been
unlike the killer's spells. Still, Burns died when they came to interview
him. Maybe there is a connection... or maybe he was just playing dead.
Bagoth cast a spell and after several minutes, turned to Zearatul.
"Come on."
"Where are we going?"
"Going to talk to some spammers." Zearatul stopped
him.
"Whoa! Wait a minute! What if one of the spammers
is leading an uprising? Considering what we've just seen, something knows
who we are and what we're doing. Wouldn't it be better to have a plan before
visiting these guys? Especially for if they become violent?" Bagoth stopped
to consider it a moment.
"Ok, here's the deal... A spammer is cowardly by nature
so if we show them that we mean business, they will be putty in our hands.
Now let's go." Bagoth opened a portal to where the banished were and they
walked through.
They entered the stronghold and the spammers turned
towards them. Present were Dracois and Star Hunter. The spammers turned
towards their apparent leader, Dracois.
"What should we do?"
"Attack, you morons, attack!" Bagoth turned to Z.
"Now watch and learn, kid." The spammers all charged
Bagoth but he easily dodged and slammed a foot into one of them, sending
him to the ground. Turning, he clothes-lined two others that were coming
at him. Another leaped upon his back but he judo flipped him and stomped
on him until he wasn't moving. Turning, he round kicked Lusty Wizard and
charged at Dracois and grabbed him, swung him around slammed him against
a wall.
"Alright, you scum. I want some answers and I want
them now!"
"Wwwwhat answers do you want?"
"About a week ago, a doctor was killed without anything
happening to him. It appeared he was working on a special type of bionics.
His name was Dr. Deschain. Now, does that ring any bells?"
"Yah, uh, we were planning a revenge plot against
Roostville one night when we heard some people talking outside. We wanted
to know who was talking. Well, we couldn't see who it was because it was
so dark, but we did see the outline of a kaiju."
"What kind of kaiju?"
"It was Guiron." Bagoth suddenly dropped Dracois and
turned to Z.
"Looks like we are dealing with Kato Yasunori."
"Who?"
"He is an enemy of the city and possibly the entire
world. Apparently, after his brother died, he saw he was inspired to do
evil by the necromancer Kato Yasunori who attacked Toho that year. He went
searching for something powerful enough to defeat every known force on
Earth and the combined forces of the Dark Lords. He found it in Tibet,
the Mask of Bagan."
"What's that?"
"A magical artifact that holds great power. He used
this to summon the monster Guiron back from the dead to be his slave. And
I'm only guessing that he's using this army of cyborg zombies to take over
the mayorship from that nimrod and complete moron, Gamingboy." Bagoth opened
a portal and handed Z his badge. "I want you go to the town hall and inform
him of what is happening. I will be getting some weapons. Oh, and kid...
If that moron Gamingboy starts saying that he can stop this with a plot
hole or some sort of nonsense, hit him a couple times and he'll stop."
And with that, Bagoth disappeared.
"Hey! His baby sitter's gone! Let's get him!" Zearatul
just watched the spammer run into a white flame.
"I suggest you treat these guys medically." Z motioned
to the spammerites on the ground and then turned and headed towards City
Hall.
*****
Zearatul arrived at the town hall. "Do you have an
appointment?" the desk clerk asked.
"No, but it is urgent I speak with Gamingboy... immediately."
"I'm afraid we only except appointments."
"Conquer your fears, then. This is important."
"Who are you?" Zearatul flashed his badge. "I'm going
to need to authorize th- " The clerk began to say but stopped as Zearatul
burst into flame.
"LISTEN TO ME!!! IF YOU DON'T LET ME SPEAK TO HIM,
THIS COULD HAPPEN TO YOU!!! KATO YASUNORI IS GOING TO ATTACK THE TOWN WITH
UNDEAD ARMIES. I MUST SPEAK TO THE MAYOR!!!" The receptionist looked stunned.
"Gamingboy will see you... now..." she said timidly.
"Thank you," Zearatul replied calmly as he walked
into the Mayor's office.
The politico asked gruffly, "Who are you and what
do you want?"
"I am Zearatul. I have come to warn you of Kato Yasunori's
potential attack on your city."
"Hah! A mere plot hole would cover that- " Zearatul
smacked him, sending the man clear across the room.
"Sorry. My commander told me to do that."
"That's OK. A loop hole could clean up these papers
you knocked over- " Zearatul smacked him again. Once more, he flew across
the room.
"You listen to me now. We need to send troops to guard
any factory, graveyard or morgue. We also need top agents looking for this
guy. And we need a kaiju to deal with Guiron. What do you say?"
*****
Bagoth stared at the great mansion that housed one
of the most important figures in Roostville and possibly had influences
in every branch of the militaries of the world. Raptor, one of the Mod
Squad and a were-dino, was also the most renowned weapons handler and dealer
in this country, or any other for that matter. The detective sighed. He
didn't want to bring the Mods in this case but it had to be done so he
walked up to the great door and rang the bell. A butler opened the door.
"Yes?"
"Hello, my name is Detective Bagoth and I would like
to see Ms. Raptor. Is she here?"
"I would like to see some identification, sir."
"Of course." Bagoth gave the butler his badge and
watched as he pulled out a device that would make sure the ID was real.
"Every thing appears to be in order. I will summon
my mistress. Please enjoy our lounge area."
"I would be delighted. Thank you." The archmage/detective
walked into the fancy room. There was a great chandelier above, a fireplace
with a fire going and great couches that could probably fit 11 people or
other species each, depending on their size. He began to rummage through
the magazine rack for something to look at but stopped when he heard somebody
coming. It was a woman, pretty and quite petite but with orange eyes like
he had never seen before. It was the mark of a Lycanthrope but in this
case, a were-dino. The Mod looked at Bagoth for a second before speaking.
"Hello, Detective. How may I help you today?"
"Yes. Hello, Ms. Raptor. I am Detective Bagoth of
the Roostville Bureau of Investigation. And I need your help."
"My help? Why?"
"Kato Yasunori is planning to take over Roostville
and overthrow Ubergeek and Gamingboy, using cyborg zombies. Then he will
use the great power of Roostville's resources to overthrow the world's
governments, take over their military and destroy each G-FORCE base located
in that particular country. Now, what I want from you are two things."
"Which are?"
"For you to spread the word unto the populace to keep
themselves indoors because I'm certain he'll bring Guiron along. Also,
some weapons and armor."
"What type of weapons and armor?"
"The type that can blow through three - no, make that
four inch thick space titanium. Armor that can protect from the standard
stuff. Rockets, energy weapons, bullets - that kind of stuff. And I would
also like to have a weapon that can destroy all electronic brains within
a square block. "
"Why should I believe any of this?" Bagoth placed
his hand on the side of hers and suddenly, she saw everything that Bagoth
had described.
"I... I'll get the weapons and armor ready as you
specified, Detective."
"I would be most appreciative, Ms. Raptor."
*****
Gamingboy has decided to gather the troops, what
about you? Zearatul communicated to Bagoth.
My mission was successful. That's all you need
to know. I'll meet you later. Bagoth replied. Zearatul looked towards
Gamingboy. He was punching in numbers on his computer.
"What are you doing?" Zearatul asked him.
"I'm preparing to fire the ignore cannon," Gamingboy
said without looking up.
"Oh crap," Zearatul figured. He froze and stared at
the Mayor of Roostville who promptly fell unconscious and into a deep sleep.
The mysterious agent gently removed the keyboard from under his head.
"When you awake, you won't remember ever seeing me,"
Zearatul growled under his breath. A blip was flashing on the monitor screen
and Field Marshal Goji Son came into focus. Melkor's faith in his friend
had prevailed and Goji Son's involvement with Hellspawn's Todd McFarlane
cult was now a mere forgotten shadow of his past. His full time work on
the Mod Squad since he had accepted the commission added a much needed
strategist to the team and his skills as a detective were also not to be
overlooked. Being the cousin of the infamous Dr. Who and an Interpol liaison
might seem a strange mix but it worked for him. He also could unleash from
the darker depths and corners of Roostville wave after wave of inhuman
enforcers, specially treated to recognize and respect a certain pheromone
every Kaiju Belt® citizen is inoculated with. Now, he would be needed
to head up the Roostville/Maser City Military Alliance. Hopefully, the
military could provide a perimeter defense if Kato directed his army of
cyborg zombies to attack the town.
"You called, Mr. Mayor?" Z. quickly re-established
his psychic link with Bagoth.
What do I do now? Bagoth stopped dead in his
tracks and concentrated on the scene in the Mayor's office. "Gamingboy's"
voice came over the computer terminal's speaker.
"Field Marshal Goji Son. I am declaring a state of
emergency. Stand by for further orders."
"Yes, your Mayorship," the officer snapped off a sharp
salute. "I will adjourn to the City Buster's War Room© immediately."
The visual clicked off and the connection broke.

The 15 mile wide alien craft in the East River had
failed to vanish with the other Effects wraiths© that assailed Roostville
during the filming of ROBBERY
IN ROOSTVILLE. The city's emergency command center had previously served
as the Grey warship's bridge. Now, below it were housed Roostville's private
jets, crop dusters, Super X's, JSDF squadrons and a couple of Ubergeek's
aeronautics projects, including several Experimental Delta Winged F-16
Prototypes© and some four dozen refurbished 'Stingray' fighter craft
(maintained by a dedicated staff of stranded 'squid' aliens). Still, Bagoth
had grave concerns about what might lay ahead for Roostville, if not all
the Kaiju Nations and the world itself.
"Here you are, Detective. Everything you asked for."
Bagoth looked saw all kinds of weapons, guns, sword like things and apparently
a few light sabers as well. He began to inspect everything, making sure
that everything really was before him.
"Everything seems to be in order but could you please
quickly show me how these operate?"
"Of course." Bagoth nodded as he tells Raptor he understood
what she said. He then walked to the door and when he was outside asked
a question. "I thank you, but I was wondering... When this thing clears
up, would you like to go out sometime?" Raptor slammed the door. "And that
would be a no, I presume..."
Suddenly, Zearatul began to speak in his head, telling
him what was happening. Concerned, Bagoth opened a portal and with his
new gear, headed toward City Hall. He looked to see that everything was
safe but the detective sensed somebody coming. He turned and it was Z.
"Hey, what happened here, kid?"
"That moron Gamingboy almost used an Ignore cannon
again but I was able to stop him. And what is the new stuff?"
"This is for combating the zombies."
"Well, you should know then that we have summoned
all the military forces here in Roostville, which I am very surprised to
say has one of the most powerful armies on the planet. Anyway, we have
a force powerful enough to stop Yasunori." Bagoth's eyes widened.
"You moron! Don't you realize the power Kato Yasunori
has?! He now commands an army of undead cyborgs that will not stop until
he is ruler of Roostville. He holds the Mask of Bagan, an ancient relic
of great magical power and to top it all off, he commands the monster Guiron
who alone can destroy whatever you got in mind. No, this is not the way
to fight Yasunori. Looks like I will have to correct the problem. Kid,
you will need to try to contact one of the other giant monsters. I would
suggest Anguirus because he is always looking forward to a fight. Meanwhile,
I will have the troops armed correctly for the battle ahead. Understood?"
Z nodded.
"Excellent. Now get cracking. We don't have a lot
of time." Zearatul looked up Giant Monsters in the phone book. The only
number he could find was the Ogasawara Daikaiju Preserve's. He dialed
but it was busy.
"Stupid earth phones..." He looked around. "Taxi!"
he yelled. Getting in, he asked the driver to take him to the outskirts
of town. After paying the driver and making sure that the car had gone
far enough away, he looked around. He yelled as he opened a black hole
he jumped into. Him and half of the ground around him were instantly sucked
up. Another black hole opened above Monster Island. He landed on the roof
of their administration building and climbed in the window.
"Where is Anguirus?" he asked. Giving him a pheromone
belt that could lure the kaiju Roostville, the clerk revealed the location.
"Ah nuts..." Zearatul said, looking at the area he would have to appear
at. A second later, he had another reason to curse as a half dozen security
personnel, alerted via the wonders of surveillance technology (a Personal
Silent Alarm within the clerk's left pocket), burst into the room. Assuming
flanking positions, the team leveled six almost comically oversized Taser
Rifles, normally employed for 'discouraging' rogue monsters...
Crumpling the map as he spun round, Zearatul prepared
another black hole. The guards' leader, a lithe, darkly tanned Asian female
sporting short black hair and a 5 foot saurian tail, tested the air with
a brief sniff and held up a taloned right hand.
"Stand down. This one's a Rooster." With the iron
discipline that had marked their entry, the team lowered tasers and relaxed
slightly. Stepping forward, Squad Leader Suki Ryota addressed the unexpected
visitor in mildly accented English.
"Since you didn't take the time for an appointment,
I presume there's another 'situation.' Care to give us the short version?"
"Agent Zearatul. RBI. Big Cyborg Zombie invasion you-know-where.
I need to get hold of Anguirus."
"I apologize, Zearatul-san, but this facility has
a rather stringent policy AGAINST random kaiju loans. Why wouldn't the
locals be able to handle this?" Zearatul glared at his semi-saurian inquisitor.
"Do the words 'Kato Yasunori' ring a bell?" Suki gasped.
"Indeed they do." Recalling fellow were-Goji Ubergeek's
firsthand account of that sorcerer's initial Roostville visit (as seen
in ORGA 99 VS. ROOSTVILLE!),
she could certainly see the need for a kaiju or two against such a foe.
"Then I'll be on my way."
"Not without an escort, Z-san."
One Black Hole Drop Later...
-
Surveying the overgrown morass of thorn coated vines,
granite outcroppings and Bottomless Looking Caverns (those that were visible,
anyway) before them, Zearatul, Suki and their four man escort mentally
cursed yet again. Even with Anguirus' primary den thoroughly mapped by
GPS satellites (and updated weekly as the industrious Anklyosaurus excavated
new tunnels), coaxing him away from said den would be tricky. Exasperating
things, the as yet untested Pheromone Belt® didn't seem to do a damn
bit of good.
"Now why in blazes would you people be handing out
unproven equipment?" grunted Z.
"Possibly because for every government agent in a
hurry, there's a Dr. Who type looking to reverse engineer that equipment,"
retorted Suki. As the group passed between two unusually ovoid 'hills,'
Private First Class Tsukioka realized something with a start.
"Ryota-san?"
"Yes, Private?"
"I think our search has been successful."
"What do you mean by- erp!" Taking a closer look at
the left 'hill', Suki discerned a bristling array of spines masked by a
thick coat of hastily dislodged rock. At that exact moment, the 'boulder'
under Zearatul's feet emitted a high decibel yelp and scuttled for the
right hand 'hill,' shedding a layer of grit and revealing a miniature Anguirus
doppleganger: seventeen feet of scute-covered shell, trailing tail with
undeveloped spines and wide dewy eyes. With thunderous roars, the 'hills'
exploded, revealing the cub's parents. Anguirus himself on the left, spraying
a cloud of dust over the shell-shocked team with one gale force snort.
An even larger, fiercer looking beast was to the right. Gently nudging
its offspring aside with a (relatively) small nasal horn, the monstrosity
then fixed baleful green eyes upon the pests at its feet.
"Perhaps too successful." Anguirus had found a mate
(the upcoming Final Wars incarnation).

As Z had set off to do his task, Bagoth went to have
a little chat with Mr. Mayor. He walked through City Hall, looking at all
the photos and statues of Gamingboy. The detective could tell that the
Mayor was just a wee bit full of himself. Soon he was at h's office. The
detective opened the door and walked in as Gamingboy looked up from what
he was doing. Bagoth could tell he was counting his money.
"Mr. Mayor. I would like you to stay out of this.
I can deal with Kato Yasunori. I would like you to just stay clear of the
fighting. Everybody on duty should be available and be prepared for the
battle."
"I will do as I please, Detective! I should be able
to develop a plot hole perfect for this situation." This statement pissed
the archmage off and people don't want to see Bagoth when he is mad. Bagoth
casually walked to Gamingboy's desk and with one hand, swiped all of his
stuff and money clear off the desk. Before Gamingboy could say anything,
the archmage lifted him up and slammed him against a nearby wall.
"Listen here, you sniveling worm! You don't have the
power to just create plot holes whenever you feel like it. People are going
to die and most importantly, animals are going to die. And I wouldn't want
to be you when Curupira gets her hands on you so I suggest you do as you
are told or I will have to get physical and you don't want that now, do
you?" Gamingboy shook his head. "Good. Now I'm going let you go and if
you think of messing with me in any shape or form, well, it won't be pretty
for you." Bagoth let the Mayor go and walked out as Gamingboy considered
his words.

Zearatul looked over the three Anguiri. This unexpected
turn of events posed a moral dilemma. He could not transport any one of
them without putting the child, and therefore himself, in danger. At the
same time, he could not leave them on the island and Roostville in danger.
He was also running very short on time and he couldn't find another kaiju.
He looked at Suki helplessly.
*****
Morning came to Roostville but it was a bleak day,
filled with feelings of fear, danger and unknown things in the shadows.
Bagoth was pacing, knowing that Kato Yasunori could and would strike at
any time now. And with the army Gamingboy had assembled and G-FORCE on
all perimeters of the island, he hoped it would help against the might
of the Mask of Bagan.
At roughly 10:00 AM, an explosion rocked the city
as a hideous army rampaged through the streets. With a grim figure behind
the army was Guiron! Yasunori had finally come. Aircraft of all types came
at the kaiju, blasting it with everything they had but the giant knife
monster just released his far reaching ninja stars. They slammed into the
fighters, destroying them easily but there was hope among the the city
of Roostville. For even though the battle against Guiron was going bad,
the ground forces had yet to be deployed. And when they finally were, Bagoth
stood with a sword and shotgun in hand and would say one thing:
"Lets get to work." (And to those of you who don't
know where that is from, it is the last line that Angel says when he is
facing off against Wolfram & Hart.)
The battle raged throughout the town between the army
led by Detective Bagoth and Kato and his cyborg minions. Bagoth raced along
the streets, blasting zombies with strange weaponry he had gotten from
Raptor. Along the way, the army of Roostville brought larger artillery
to dispense with the swarming hordes.
Bagoth was glad about this but he had bigger fish
to fry then the zombies. He was going to take care of the main problem,
Kato Yasunori but to his right were zombies, in the shape of cars no less.
The archmage didn't have much time to lose so he took out a specially designed
ball with strange dark energy in it. He chucked it into the air and suddenly,
the thing burst, unleashing waves of pure negative energy. This reacted
badly with the zombies, blinding them. The army capitalized on the opportunity
and started annihilating the zombies, destroying their swarms.
"Very interesting." Bagoth turned to see Yasunori
with his Bagan mask float from Guiron onto the ground, facing the detective.
"Using a Negaball to blind the Cyborgs was a work
of pure genius but sadly, I cannot stand for one with such power and intelligence.
I kindly ask you to step out of my way before I unveil the powers of my
mask."
"Hmmm, how 'bout no?"
"Well, then, I guess I will have to move you." Dark
energy began to flow all over Yasunori as he sent a great beam of negative
energy at the archmage, Bagoth. The detective held out his hand and actually
made the blast come towards him and form into a ball. Then the ball transformed
into true positive energy. He hurled the great ball at Kato but a wall
of internal darkness was in its way so it entered the wall and disappeared.
With a wave of his hand, the wall then vanished.
"You are skilled but my magic shall destroy you!"
"What magic? The only magic you possess is the mask
upon your head and if you didn't have that, with one flick and you'd be
a chicken by now." Yasunori glared and looked at Guiron. With a quick gesture,
he waved him off to destroy the town. The two circled each other, calculating
the other's next move.
"You are right, mage. My power does spring forth from
the Mask of Bagan but it is a part of me now and I part of the mask. We
are one and I shall destroy you, Gamingboy and all who dare defy me the
right to this island and the world." Kato began to rise into the air as
dark energy crackled and flowed all around him. Looking back at Bagoth,
he smiled and a great ball of darkness engulfed him. Then he disappeared
in a cloud of smoke but suddenly, a portal opened and with it appeared
some sort of creature. It had a hooked tail, large birdlike wings, large
muscular lion like legs, a horse like mid section and a the head of a shark.
It was obviously some demon from the abyss, a demon lord.
The battle continued, carnage ensuing. As the Roostvillians
battled, a figure could be seen in the distance. A sinister laugh could
be heard echoing throughout the battlefield. The Roostafarians turned to
see Battrarules standing in the midst of the field. He turned to Guiron
and roared, his body pulsing and warping. The roar was growing deeper and
more horrific as Battrarules' body began to grow in size and change appearance.
Tentacles, long and barbed, grew out of his back and his head warped and
melted into a strange Irys/Gyaos/Gamera combination with Irys' eye, Gyaos'
face and Gamera's tusks. The monster shuddered as great wings burst out
of its back and Gamyaris turned to Guiron. With a horrific, gruesome roar,
Gamyaris lashed out at Guiron whose wails of pain echoed across the battlefield.
Something very bloody was about to happen. Guiron was slammed into the
ground by the great monster just overhead, barbs prepared to fire. And
as Guiron tried to rise , Gamyaris blasted him with Sonic Cutter Beams
and Plasma Fireballs. Guiron was then lifted up by the barbed tentacles,
blood oozing onto the land. Guiron was then hurled straight at Kato Yasunori
as a great force blasted into the creature and slammed him into a building.
The hybrid began to walk where Kato's pet kaiju lay but suddenly, a black
lightning bolt struck the exact spot where Guiron was and rose up. Negative
energy swarmed all around the creature, changing him. His body shifted
so he could stand on his two back feet and still be able to control his
great knife head. His tail grew a spike and his elbows grew space titanium
blades. His two front legs shifted to long forearms but the head stayed
the same. Gamyaris was not impressed and shot three Plasma Fireballs at
the new Guironis but something strange happened. The knife kaiju whipped
his head incredibly fast, slashing the fireball in two. Guironis looked
at the hybrid with a weird, almost cocky look and then something extremely
weird happened. Guironis' neck extended far beyond its normal capacity;
it moved like a snake and shot towards Gamyaris. The new Guiron cut off
one of the hybrids' tendrils but Gamyaris quickly regrew it and then turned
upwards. Guironis looked up and Gamyaris fired a sonic beam through his
gut. The wail of pain echoed and Gamyaris roared again, the sound rumbling
like a freight train.
Gamyaris then flew toward Guironis and punched him
through the nearest building. Smoke and flame rose as Guironis wailed again,
this time in surprise. Gamyaris turned and stomped over to a building with
adamantium steel spires on it and quickly ripped the them off, only to
hurl them, one after the other, at Guironis.
*****
Zearatul turned his head. Something very bad is happening.
He knew now he could not risk any one of the Anguiri.
"Suki, I must go. You can come if you want but I don't
suggest it." He turned and vanished into a black hole.
He looked toward the demon lord and jumped back. His
hand held high, a white flame appeared in it for only a brief second. "KUSO!!!"
He yelled as he shot forth a series of one hundred energy balls towards
the monster. Bagoth just sighed as he watched Z. get the demon lord's attention.
The great demon did nothing as the fireballs kept on going. Finally, as
the assault ended, the demon looked at Z. Energy began to collect at the
tip of his tail. Looking back at the strange visitor from the black hole,
the demon lord shot a greenish haze over Zearatul. It began to morph into
tendrils which formed all over Z's body. He tried to burn his way out but
they seemed to absorb the thermal energy. He also tried to summon a worm
hole to escape but the strange green vines seemed to block his power over
them. He was truly trapped.
The demon lord looked back at Bagoth and smiled, showing
his great teeth. He raised his tail into the air and slammed it on the
ground. Suddenly, a crack flowed towards the detective. Bagoth dodged it
but then, something unexpected happened. The crack widened until it was
a great chasm.
Zearatul looked at the Demon Lord, then at the tendrils
and finally, at the chasm. He closed his eyes began to concentrate...
*****
Guironis burst from the debris and extended his neck,
allowing his knife to cut through the projectiles that Gamyaris tried to
send towards him. The combination creature did not like this so he unleashed
another barrage of attacks. Guironis did not move and his knife head began
to glow yellow. The Sonic Cutter Beams and Plasma Fireballs were all pulled
into the head, then shot back at Gamyaris, blasting him into some buildings.
Gamyaris roared as Guironis charged at him. He bent
down, showing impossible agility, and then slammed upwards into Guironis.
He ripped into Guironis' flesh before drawing up and slicing further with
his sonic cutters. A fierce grin split his face.
Roughly 20 Minutes Before All Hell Broke Loose
for the 130th Time:
Blinking at the rapidly closing black hole that heralded
Zearatul's disappearance, Suki and her team were snapped back to their
immediate situation by two things: namely, the Anguirus pair, now closing
from both directions. Fortunately, a quick, if impromptu, defusing of this
situation was at hand. She barked out a two syllable command:
"Earplugs!" Tsukioka and Company immediately hit the
now rumbling dirt, hands flying to apply said Aids to Continued Hearing.
As the Anguirids' shadows fell across them, the Demi-Goji braced herself,
inhaled and let out a threatening bay quite out of proportion to her body
mass:
"RRRRRRUUUUUUUUUUNNNNNNNNK!"
Putting on the brakes, both Anguirids threw up another
massive cloud of dust as they scrambled for cover, escorting the cub to
a nearby burrow and tunneling out of sight. Gasping for breath, Suki made
a mental note: simply taser the next Roostafarian who didn't check in at
the office. Tsukioka, having removed his earplugs once the rumbling subsided,
unsteadily patted his lead's shoulder.
"Orders, Ryota-san?" At that moment, the comm device
attached to Suki's belt started vibrating, answering that question.
"Back to HQ."
There, Suki was met by Col. Heihachiro Gondo, head
of the Special Ops Division she worked with in... err... extenuating circumstances,
such as the chaos currently erupting in Roostville. The City Buster's surveillance
network had been patched into a convenient view screen. Ten minutes later,
a pair of teammates - Jun Katagiri, a rollerblade-sporting 'punk' and Carl
Englehorn, an oversized brain transplanted gorilla - had arrived and been
properly briefed.
Dashing off to ready a AV-9J supersonic transport
(carries 40 passengers and/or one standard sized Daikaiju), Gondo paused
at a shouted request.
"Gondo-san?" It was Tsukioka and his trio of cohorts,
suffering from a case of minor 'jet lag.' The middle aged war horse's brows
knitted with annoyance.
"What?"
"May we take a 15 minute break?" Gondo threw his arms
up.
"Make it 45."
"Arigato."
Suki had the airship speed along with all haste. The
Roostafarians wanted Anguirus? They would be much happier when they saw
what she was bringing them...
Present Time, Outskirts of the Battlefield:
Landing the transport well clear of the various enormous
entities' attack radius, Gondo addressed the odd trio now unstrapping themselves.
"Katagiri, Englehorn. You know the drill?"
"Keep the walking Ginsu knife and Irys/Gamera combo
busy while you guys unwrap the 'package?'" grunted the primate.
"Hai. Get to it." With that, rudie and primate took
off, working their way down Roostville's now evacuated streets.
*****
Bagoth looked on as the Demon Lord looked passed the
young Zearatul and at the true danger, himself. "Behold, wizard. I am Zuinos
the Desolate, Demon Lord of the Abyss. I have been watching the events
unfold on the material plane and it has intrigued me. The battles are also
interesting so when that fool Yasunori offered to allow me free entrance
into your plane, I could not help but say 'yes'." Bagoth looked at Zuinos
with strange, angry eyes.
"Well, I will have to put you back, won't I?"
"HAHAHAHAHAHA! You do not have the power to put me
back, nor even your Dark Lords hold that much power. "
"Well, then, let's see about that." The detective
sent a sunburst spell up into the air and it exploded in a great array
of light but the Desolate One opened his mouth and actually sucked the
blinding light into his mouth. When all the light was consumed, he closed
his great jaws.
"Mmmm, very good magic. mage. When I eat you, I want
you to remind me to eat your magic as well. Bagoth did nothing. "Answer
me, damn you!" The demon grew angry and hurled a great spray of acid over
Detective Bagoth but all of it went through him. Zuinos turned to see Bagoth
standing in front of him.
"How do like my silent image spell? A little basic
but it gets the job done."
"What job?" The demon lord looked up and saw a great
whirling portal hovering in the sky.
"No, you didn't."
"Oh, yes, I did." With one swipe of his hand, the
portal came down, engulfing the Desolate One in a portal of shadow. The
demon lord was gone but the Archmage had used most of his effort to defeat
it. As soon as Zuinos entered the portal, all the spells he took with him
went dead and Zearatul was freed. Very confused, he ran towards the tired
Detective.
"That was amazing! You slain the thing!"
"No, I just sent him back to where he came from. But
we cannot focus on that right now. There is still one more piece to take
care of." Bagoth walked to the edge of the skyscraper they found themselves
on and shouted with all of his might.
"Kato. Your demon lord has been defeated and your
new Guiron is not faring any better. Let your minions leave Roostville
or we will crush all your forces and come after you." The sky went dark
and two huge eyes appeared.
"You have won the battle, Beast Master, but ultimate
victory will be mine." With that, the eyes disappeared. Gamyaris turned
to Guironis. He had heard and comprehended Kato's speech and was ready
to do what he was holding back from. A vast wall of sorcerous energy began
to form around the demon. Guironis backed up, even as the wall began to
solidify. A long energy knife cut deep into him, slicing his head off.
Blood sprayed from the neck of the beast, even as Gamyaris wailed in agony.
His body warped, melted and altered back into the form of Battrarules.
Shaking his head, Battrarules grunted and then flew back to his boiler
room.
Zearatul turned to Bagoth. "Wow! Can I be your deputy
permanently?" Bagoth slapped him across the face.
"Are you kidding!?! Your basic inability to get anything
done makes me soooooo mad! BEGONE, FOOL!" Zearatul fled to a nearby pub.
If he were a dog, his tail surely would've been between his legs. He sat
there, mumbling.
"Well, screw him. I got the job done..." He looked
towards the sky. "Ah well, another day, yet another vacation wasted." He
walked back to the inn where he had been staying. Early the next morning,
he would teleport back home.
*****
A few weeks later, Mayor Gamingboy had arranged a
celebration for Bagoth and everybody else who had helped out. Many people
from all over Roostville were there as Gamingboy walked up to the podium
"Hello, everybody. On this special occasion, I would
like to celebrate the defeat of Kato Yasunori!" Gamingboy paused for the
cheers that followed. "And to honor the person who made our victory possible,
Detective Bagoth." Gamingboy stepped away, leaving Bagoth the podium. The
RBI agent looked over the huge crowd.
"I would like to thank everybody here tonight but
I am no hero. It was just a normal day here in Roostville."
